About blog:

Crux-of-the-Matter (Cotm) is a ”middle of the road” conservative leaning blog — meaning that positions taken usually reflect fiscally conservative/socially progressive views – that provides news and commentary on a wide range of topics and issues of interest to the blogger, including education, Canadian politics and disability (autism).

About Sandy:

Sandy is the blogger here. She is first and foremost a wife, mother, grandmother and more recently, a great-grandmother. She is also a retired educator, having taught at both the elementary and high school levels. In the mid 1980’s she went back to school and earned a Ph.D in Education from OISE/Univ. of Toronto, followed by nearly a decade teaching university at the pre-service and graduate teacher levels. During that period, she also operated a private practice assessing and working with children, youth and adults with special needs and wrote a textbook on learning strategies.

Following early retirement, Sandy also spent several years in communications and politics, including time as an EA to an Ontario PC member of parliament in the Mike Harris government during the first mandate from the mid to late 1990’s. At the moment, in addition to managing this blog, Sandy is a part-time educational consultant and freelance writer for a national Christian magazine.
