About Info

The Blog:

This blog is a personal blog and is called Crux-of-the-Matter, a play on my married name, Sandy Crux.  I started the blog in January 2006, moving to WordPress in mid 2007.  For a short time in 2010, it was also known as “The Retired Educator.” While I cover Canadian federal and provincial political matters of interest, I am particularly interested in how politics impacts policies related to education.

The Blogger:

I am a retired teacher and former academic in education (curriculum, psychology of instruction and teaching reading and writing to those with learning disabilities), having taught at all levels of the education system, including in two Southern Ontario universities.

As well, in between teaching assignments and prior to retirement, I also spent some time (between 1995 and 1999) as an Executive Assistant and communications strategist for an Ontario Progressive Conservative MPP — who was also a Parliamentary Assistant to both the Education Minister and the Minister of Colleges and Universities. That experience taught me a great deal about how social pressure and politics impact the implementation of education policy.
