Professional pollster results just prior to the May 2, 2011 Canadian federal election put the lie to the consensus media and opposition claim that the Conservative Party of Canada, in any way, shape or form, stole or influenced the election outcome. In fact, they reinforce the notion that the CPC won it fair and square.
Check out this Wikipedia link for example. It has all the results of the professional pollsters just prior to the election, beginning as early as March 27th. While the chart shown here is somewhat fuzzy, it clearly shows each party’s progress by colour. The CPC, the blue dots and lines, were always in the lead. The Liberals, the red, were ahead of the NDP (orange) at the start but were overcome in the last days of the campaign.
However, what readers will notice immediately is that most results for the Liberal Party of Canada (LPOC) and NDP are bang on, while the final percentage for the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) is slightly higher — but in all cases within the margin of error or very close to it.
So, unless the pollsters were in cahoots with the Conservative Party of Canada, all this talk about robocalls influencing the election outcome is just plain nonsense because the numbers speak for themselves.
On May 2nd, the CPC got 39.6% of the vote, the LPOC 18.9% of the vote and the NDP 30.6% of the vote.
Between April 28th & May 1st:
- Forum CPC 36%, LPOC 19%, NDP 33%
- Ekos CPC 33.9%, LPOC 21.0%, NDP 31.2%
- Nanos CPC 37.1%, LPOC 20.5%, NDP 31.6%
- Harris Decima CPC 36%, LPOC 19%, NDP 30%
- Ekos CPC 34.6%, LPOC 18%, NDP 32%
- Abacus CPC 37%, LPOC 18%, NDP 32%
- Compass CPC 46%, LPOC 17%, NDP 26%
- Nanos CPC 38.0%, LPOC 23.3%, NDP 29.6%
- Angus Reid CPC 37%, LPOC 19%, NDP 33%
- Ipsos Reid CPC 38%, LPOC 18%, NDP 33%
By all means investigate and get to the bottom of any robocall or call centre complaints and hold those responsible for any wrong doing. However, in the meantime, the opposition should get back to doing their part in governing this country and, in my opinion, the mainstream media should get back to real reportage and investigative journalism.

It is anyone’s guess whether robocalls and alleged Conservative illegal behavior changed the election results. But that is not the point is it. Illegal and unethical behavior by the Conservative Party and by anyone must be investigated and the guilty should go to jail.
[Edited by blog administrator.]
I really did not know that liberal voters were so scared by telephone calls that they would hide in their basements on election day rather than vote. This wolfpack attack will not get them back to govt for many more years, if ever. Guess they and the media really want PMSH to be in office for the next 20 years.
I think they are trying to get the PM so angry that he will prorogue the HofC again.
Wont happen. The faux scandal they are trying to create will backfire on them big time.
Frank — Did you even read what I wrote. The robocalls couldn’t have changed election results. Plus, as I said in my last sentence, if anyone is responsible they should reap the consequences. You should not mention a former Conservative employee. You have no proof whatsoever and people are still innocent until proven guilty in this country. Sounds like you really don’t want any facts. You already have your mind made up.
This whole gotcha is so far off base it defies reason. How could the Conservatives have spent so much time and money calling all the voters across the country to misdirect voters to voting stations?
This is another concerted effort to smear and discredit Stephen Harper and his government and all the people who voted and support it.
The real disgrace is the name calling and accusations coming from the likes of NDP MP’s Pat Martin , Angus, and even their interim leader. They cannot provide proof but that doesn’t stop them. IMO the NDP are feeling their oats, the status of Official Opposition has addled their already screwed up thought processes. As for the Liberals, they can’t accept being out of power, they’ve come to think it’s their God given right.
I agree, all they need to do is look at the polling for another bit of proof of how far off the rails they really are.
Frank there is NO evidence that the Conservatives were involved. There is no evidence that the Liberals or the NDP were involved either. The only thing in evidence is that someone used a pay as you go phone to call Racknine to make robocalls. Well that and some call centre employees who said that they changed the script they were given to read. Therefore please refrain from even using the term alleged Conservative illegal behavior. It is unbecoming and taints one party unfairly. We don’t know who did what nor if they had any connection to a political party. I just read Coynes nonsense in the National Post and had to laugh at his smear job. He alleges that because the hacker used Racknine the hacker must be Conservative. I would make the opposite argument. The last robodialer a Conservative would use to send out misleading calls would be from the company your party uses. If I were so inclined I would find the company the Liberals or NDP used and hack their robodialer. That way when the el toro poo poo hits the fan it would look like the Libe/NDP did it. Using my logic it would seem more likely that the hack job was done by a Lib/NDP/Bloc supporter and not a Conservative.
Actually Joe, I added the word “alleged” to Frank’s comment. He had already decided they were guilty I guess. The polls simply reinforce the trend that was obvious to everyone. The Libs really need to look at the change between their polls and the NDP in the last days. That is where their real competition is right now.
I just can’t see the Conservative government being this bloody stupid . There might be some benefit , but nowhere near the potential cost . The only thing remotely close in the realm of stupid was Michael Ignatief and Gerard Kennedy holding that press conference in the wrong field . Didn’t anybody tell Pat Meltdown that the $2.oo subs per vote are on the way out . He figures he’s really got the answer on that . Then you get Bob Rae live on cpac quoting himself , then in the next breath , trying to use that quote as evidence .Then he says he has no proof and far be it from him to make any allegations and then , he takes a deep breath and makes a bunch of allegations . Good Lord , the lust for power in these people is hard to comprehend . Anybody wanting power that bad doesn’t want it for the good of the country . It’s personal. It looks like Coalition of losers 11 , The Sequel .
This on CBC website in Nov 28th…who is up to dirty tricks?
Some journalists were left scratching their heads Monday after a fake government press release promising snow shovelling tax credits for seniors hit their inboxes.
The spoof release was quickly revealed as a fake by a phone call to the office of Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq. The phony emailed news release said the government would provide fitness tax credits for seniors shovelling snow if they submitted photos as evidence.
A communications consultant in Winnipeg, reached by CBC’s Alison Crawford, admitted to being behind the fake.
The release contained quotes from Aglukkaq billing it as preventive health care and independent living.
The email appeared to come from Health Canada’s media relations email address, but instead came from a variation on the address.
The fake news release said seniors could get $50 for shovelling snow, or $100 if it was heavy and wet.
“Concerns that shovelling snow might lead to heart attacks was unwarranted,” the release quoted Aglukkaq as saying.
“There is no scientific consensus on the link between shovelling snow and heart attacks…. In fact, there is considerably more credible scientific evidence for climate change.”
Aglukkaq’s spokesman assured CBC News that the release was not from their office.
The federal government has been the victim of spoof emails before.
In 2009, a group called the Yes Men sent a series of news releases during the UN’s Copenhagen climate change summit that said Canada was committing to drastic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.
Winnipeg prankster admits to email
But in this case, the prankster says it was a way to poke fun at a government who has used targeted tax credits with great success in winning over voters.
Crawford says Dougald Lamont at first denied it when she asked whether he was the one behind the spoof that assures seniors they will be “rewarded – even posthumously – for [shovelling snow] themselves.”
But pressed again, the Winnipeg communications consultant admitted he sent his creative release to 120 people.
“It was an impulse I had,” Lamont told Crawford. “I had just finished a copy of Private Eye, the British satirical magazine.”
Lamont says he thinks the release, which so far has not been taken too seriously by any media outlet,
The problem with the “alleged” preface in refering to illegal actions, is that frequent use tends to lessen its effect. I am not thinking of your use here, Sandy, which is proper, but constant repeating of the charges mentioned with CPC in the same breath by media people.
Thus if Rosemary Barton repeats the story, stressing only allegations at this point, but mentions the CPC 5 times in a 7 minute sound bite, the viewer is left with the impression that there is a definite connection. The CBC has been over the top with this for 6 days or so, constantly mentioning CPC and election manipulation in the same breath, but not other parties. A current CBC poll shows 91% believed the call controvery was election fraud, small wonder why..
Just on with Dave Rutherford,NDP MP Peter Stoffer when talking about robocalls actually sounded quite reasonable for a Dipper. Said he believes so called robocalls didn’t change the outcome of the election, doesn’t believe the widespread voter repression believes could though could be an underling that like all of us needs to be caught and punished. Wants all parties investigated including his own and nine months later believes there’s this “me too” with all the so called repressed voters coming out of the woodwork. Doesn’t believe them.
Real reason Dave wanted to talk to him was really to talk about the golf tax credit thing.

Dirty tricks were made by Liberals
it just came out in Question period today that All the calls from this centre came from the LIBERAL Party made to households and Liberal Joe Volpe paid the company $25,000 to make calls . CAUGHT but will the media report this?? Over to you CBC..
‘Toronto Liberal candidate Joe Volpe has asked Elections Canada to formally investigate reports that residents in his riding are being harrassed by repeated calls from a North Dakota phone number claiming to represent his campaign.’
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/story/2011/04/15/cv-election-volpe-harassment.html
Another riding paid $11,300 by a Liberal…didn’t get the riding. The Conservatives are fighting back with their own evidence.
Watch QP.
Again Frank, you state unethical behavior by the Conservative party??Where is your proof??Please do not use those words unless you have proof..We have proof of unethical behavior by the Liberals in ADSCAM,but none by the Conservatives yet in the robocall scandal..Do you see the difference..Adscam had proof..This one does not.
Karen Redman Liberal paid the US company $22,600 to make calls in Kitchen and also calls were made in St Bonaface paid by Liberals. The riding above was Chillawack BC paid $11,300 to a US co by the Liberal.
What will the CBC do now?
Now Elizabeth May is up saying she doesn’t want to make accusations…LOL…now.
What will the CBC do now Ontario Girl? Well, let’s jump ahead to Mansbridge on the National as he reads his copy for tonights newscast….”This just in on the Robocalls, dirty tricks scandal, we here at the CBC have determined that the story is now dead and would appreciate all CBC friendly media outlets, and you know who you are, would be so kind as to arrive at the same conclusion”, ” Now, on to other news, the Conservative Party of Canada was accused today, by Liberal leader Bob Rae, as being really. really mean…..”
Ontario Girl — Thanks so much for keeping me up to date on all the happenings in QP.
Platty, I actually laughed out loud when I read your comment. Bang on. It’s Thursday. So what will the At Issue panel say now?
Truly, during the past ten days, the mainstream media, quite apart from SNN and QMI, have shown how little integrity they have.
Frustration has set in…and they are realizing that a majority is difficult to deal with on many fronts……nothing else has worked in upsetting the apple cart, not in the House of Commons, or out of it. They are wildly throwing the mud anywhere to stick. When the opposition is in this mode..they see what they want to see out of something. They do not live in the present, not from the emotions shown. There is not one “cool hand Luke” among them, no voice of reason, it’s fixed bayonets and “charge” ! ….firmly believing that this time they have something and that the stage is set. One political party is set on “revenge” [ I allege } and the other political party believes they are just in rehearsal for the real thing…the top prize… becoming the government. To these two parties their plot is lost.
Evan Soloman is attacking Dean del Mastro like a wild animal. He has his usual Liberal NDP guys there….3 against one. Seems CBC is using taxpayers dollars doing CBC investigations to discredit anything the Conservatives say…. just mix things up..jumble the mind and brain…deflect, deflect.
Tonight is a CBC live call at 6pm eastern on robocalls. Never done by CBC ever. The show was announced before QP. Loaded with CBC staff and Opposition members calling themselves Dick and Jane??? Time to close down the CBC and i am very serious.
in todays question period , while the PM was talking about liberals using robo-calls and the liberals were looking confused O’Malley was tweeting that there were 2 different unrelated companies called prime contact . Neither the liberals or the conservatives seemed to realise it during question period , but it looks like only the liberals seemed to catch it and Dean Del Mastro was hung out to dry on power and politics . If’n I was Mr Del Mastro , I’d be a tad ticked off at my research staff. In the mean time theres a few blogs and news sites talking about the zinger . I really wish we’d quit playing zinger .
The call in show is not a real call in show…we have NDP Ian Capstick on and a CBC PANEL….is this a call in show? Now Jean Pierre Kingsley from Elecions Canada….now a live call in PIC call from LIBERAL Anthony RODA from North Bay who lost by 18 votes who wants an inquiry, who had a number of callers ….oh hell…now Hanna Theaubalt is to comie on…oh WOW next caller………in & Out…caller from Guelph….CBC makes me puke……left arm of the corrupt Liberals. Big justice system…..CBC and Harper haters. Next caller….why is my PM not getting to the bottom of this….I am a LIBERAL but where am I going to go…baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
CBC call in show reminds me of the CBC rigged machine that told everyone they were LIBERALS.
I can just hear The National tonight. Half truths….deflects…lies….spin…..BS…Liberals “On the street”
next caller says I am a Liberal…..next email from someone in Ken Drydens riding got calls…..next on Pat Martin toilet mouth
Oops..now they can’t take real calls…now its only TWEETS…first one…”Yes Conservatives caught with their hands in the cookie jar” yawn…left arm of the Liberal party CBC in action.
← RoboCalls – What a JOKE!
Check out Trusty Tory Sandy. It is the most recent thing today it is on blogging tories now makes you wonder eh.
[Edited. See explanation in reply comment.]
May as well finish the end of the “call in show”
John …opps.now they got a call in…his question..”How many ridings in Canada do we see phoney election calls?” Answer from liberal CBC employee Evan Soloman…”It’s SNOWBALLING”‘
End of show…no tweets now…oops a CALL…from another JOHN….from Toronto..”..I want Harper to know this is not just election FRAUD and Harper should be IMPRISIONED.”
how lovely for the CBC..this is the tone that ended the “call in show”
Evan says…we will do this again…maybe.
LOL…one good thing. We have a strong, national, Conservative, majority Govt.
Hope this propaganda Liberal machine is defunded in the budget…. maybe thats CBC’s problem??
Sorry Roy, but I don’t like copying other bloggers posts so I removed it and just put in Trusty Tory.
Plus, I don’t want to get into this “they said, we said” stuff.
I am glad people are keeping me informed but frankly, all it is doing is raising my blood pressure because I find this whole opposition episode one of the most embarrassing & demeaning times in Canadian politics and I have been around a very long time.
What must other Western nations think of us? We have a respected government internationally and then our opposition act like school yard bullies. If there had been an NDP/Liberal coalition, I cannot imagine the Tories treating them like this. The CBC? Pat Martin? What an I say?
Ontario Girl — “Maybe that’s CBC’s problem?” Hmm. Could well be. I am glad you have kept me up to date because I just can’t turn on the TV. I find the whole CBC call in idea so mickey mouse and unprofessional……
Ontario Girl — Here is a NP article that says that CBC will get a 10% cut. That is one hundred million dollars. Yes, that is what this is all about. Lot’s of layoffs I expect. Well, after their behaviour lately, I don’t feel one bit sorry for them.
Start at the bottom and work up, first to go Kady, then the At Issue Panel. Why should we fly Chantel back and forth and pay hotel and meals. Then Evan, and finally Terry M. After they are gone I will get serious about other cuts, like Suzuki, and all those american progams. Last to leave and turn out the lights, Peter himself.
I agree Mary, however, I am of the belief that we need to recoup some of that money the CBC has sqaundered for so many years. What we need to do is auction off the ability to fire these clowns face to face. I’ll start the bidding at $10,000.00 to tell Kady she will no longer be paid to tweet the day away……
Maybe just maybe, we can all claim all CBC expensives on our Income Tax, since we are paying for it.
now it looks like charlie angus was yelling about that company in question period . blew that theory .
Sandy, just maybe you have discovered the ringy thiny person, anonomous name and e-mail, could be he/she is trying to get outed to take the blame off PMSH.
I used to get posts from a lib blog that I read a couple of time, and put the comments in junk mail. Funny thing, I still get the odd comment from one of our blogs listed as anonomous that is usually unread by me. I put them in spam and get the message, you already have a rule for xxxx, do you want them in spam instead.
Well Mary T — I always keep my anonymous or other rejected comments in a special file on this blog. Beyond that, I haven’t time to worry about them. If someone was trying to hide their identity they could simply by using a fake e-mail (there are sites that provide such e-mail, to be used only once) and proxy’s to hide their IP. Check out “Hide My Ass Proxy” for example. Which is one reason I wonder how Bill C-30 would work.
